After securing another four years as the chairman of the Pool Association of Uganda (PAU), Bob Trubish tabled strategic focus areas for the new term.

Together with the new executive, the mission is to ‘transform pool’ in the country to be able to recruit more players while making it more beneficial for those already in the system.

In yesterday’s presser, Trubish took the media and the Pool fraternity through the association’s key priorities and initiatives to promote the growth of the sport.

Securing Sponsorships and Federation Status by 2025

Sponsorships for all competitions took the lead as Turbish noted that, “this will allow them to improve the quality of events, increase prize money, and support the National Team at international competitions better.”

Next in the queue was to become a federation by 2025 by overseeing regional pool associations across the country and having activities running in 75% of the country.

“The journey to become a federation covering regional bodies should be implemented with a clear roadmap by 2025. Currently, the constitution is undergoing amendments to align with the new Sports Act 2023,” Trubish said.

Cultivating Talent

Also, talent management was part of the areas addressed by taking the game to schools and universities.

“There is tremendous talent in Uganda. We need to cultivate and support these players as they progress to compete at the highest levels,” stressed Trubish.

Building a Permanent Home

Fast forward, with the need for a home being a necessity of yesterday, Turbish said that they are committed to developing infrastructure and exploring new revenue streams to ensure the long-term growth of the pool in Uganda.

“We want to provide world-class facilities for our players. Permanent infrastructure will raise the profile of the pool in Uganda and allow us to host major regional and continental events,” said Trubish.

Exploring New Revenue Streams

Under the new revenue streams, PAU is looking at generating revenue by renting pool tables, cues, and other equipment to players and pool halls when not being used for events or training.

“While we work to finalize plans for facilities, new revenue streams like merchandising should be in place to provide financial stability for PAU and support for our players over the long run.”

Expanding Activity Calendar

Lastly, Turbish tabled the urgent need to expand the activity calendar with more innovative events targeting national coverage.

These events will include novice championships, talent searches, corporate competitions, and other initiatives to engage the pool community and the public.

“By expanding our calendar of events, we aim to make the sport more accessible to people across the country and uncover new talent.”
