The Hoima City Stadium has been opened as the first to be completed as Uganda prepares to host the 2027 AFCON.
At the stadium’s opening ceremony on 24 December 2025, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni praised the way it was built.
Speaking at the opening of the stadium, President Museveni said, “I thank the company that we gave the contract to build this stadium, I have seen they can do a good job and this is a good start of the partnership I will entrust them with more projects.”

When we were allowed to host the next AFCON, my colleagues and I said that we cannot be ashamed, then we decided to come up with this project, we thank FUFA for getting this land and we thank the Rujumba Family for donating this land to us through FUFA.”
Hoima City Stadium was built on modern multi-purpose standards reaching the level of high international standards.
The overall facility is designed with a Main stadium for Football, Rugby, and Athletics with high-quality VIP sections having different lounges and accommodation for over 20,000 spectators sitting capacity.
On its wider range, the stadium has an outer pitch of the same uses, a Multi Purpose Indoor Arena accommodates 2,000 spectators for Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Volleyball, and many other indoor games, and topped up with a wider parking.
In the opening match, Kitara FC beat KCCA FC 1-0 with a goal from Isaac Amutuhaire, and then fireworks were lit before a Rugby game between Rugby Cranes players divided in Rwenzori and Victoria in front of an empty stadium.
