Prisons reignited their National Netball Super League title hopes with a gutsy 47โ€“46 win over league leaders UCU in a Saturday thriller at Nakivubo Stadium.

Earlier in the day, Prisons had cruised past Busia Greater Lions 58โ€“38. That momentum carried into the showdown with UCU, though they had to dig deep to get the job done.

UCU started strong, edging the first quarter 13โ€“12 and stretching their lead to 27โ€“21 by halftime with fast breaks and clean finishes.

But everything changed after the break. Prisons coach Paul Sserunjogi made key changes; Sylvia Nanyonga (WD), Stella Nanfuka (GK), and Hadijah Nakabuye (GA) came on, and Joyce Nakibuule moved to wing attack.

The switch worked. Nanfuka dominated in defense, while Nanyonga disrupted UCUโ€™s flow with relentless pressure. A series of turnovers, including one by UCUโ€™s Winnie Isoto, helped Prisons draw level at 35โ€“35 heading into the final quarter.

UCU briefly pulled ahead again behind Linda Muzigoโ€™s sharp shooting, but Prisons refused to fold. Nanyongaโ€™s interception and a timely pick by Lilian Ajio set off a six-goal unanswered run that sealed the win, handing UCU their second loss of the season.

Prisons now sit on 11 points, just five behind UCU, and very much back in the title race.
