Agnes Joseph Qwele was the hero as Tanzania beat Namibia by six wickets to secure 5th place at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Kigali.

Despite losing the toss, the Tanzanian captain, remained unfazed as she trapped Namibia’s captain and star batter Engela Estelle Van Der Merwe, leg before wicket for one run before bundling out the lower order batting lineup to finish with sensational figures of 4 for 9 in four overs.

She was well supported by Farida Amiry Kinyumbi and Jenipher Gabriel Kimaro who also picked two wickets each.

Namibian opening batter Mekelaye Ndaukatekeka Mwatile was the only batter to reach double figures in her patient knock of 51 off 65 balls as her side got dismissed for 82 with five deliveries to spare.

Mekelaye Ndaukatekeka Mwatile (51 off 65 balls) topscored for Namibia in a losing effort against Tanzania at Gahanga Cricket Stadium.

After the break, Tanzania’s top-order batters Jenipher Gabriel Kimaro (28 off 26 balls), Saumu Deo Hussein (16 off 17 balls) and Qwele (15 off 16 balls) put the game to bed after laying the foundation for a convincing six-wicket victory at Gahanga Cricket
Stadium.

Defeat means that Namibia finish 6th.

Kenya vs Malawi:

Christina Bwanali took 4-13 as Malawi ended their ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier campaign on a winning note against Kenya at IPRC Cricket Ground.

The spinner, together with the pace duo of Esther Richard (2 for 1 in two overs) and Malawi captain Alinafe Alfonso (2 for 4 in two overs), picked a combined eight wickets to limit Kenya to 70 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Like in previous matches, Kenya’s star batters Kreeshna Mehta (10 off 19 balls) and Melvin Khagoitsa (8 off 13 balls) never got going, thanks to Malawi’s disciplined bowling and tight fielding.

In the second innings, Euless Chilarile (27 off 39 balls) and Mercy Kudimba (22 off 33 balls) anchored the chase as Malawi sailed home with 26 balls to spare.

The win secured 7th spot for Malawi, while Kenya, who failed to win a game at the tournament, finished 8th.
