As the Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards nears its seventh anniversary in September 2025, founder Isaac Mukasa highlighted the awards’ primary goal: to create a lasting legacy for Ugandan athletes.

At the July awards ceremony on Tuesday, August 5, Mukasa explained that the awards serve as a tangible record of achievement. “Many people have served the sports industry, but there is nothing to prove their service,” he said, citing legendary footballer Jackson Mayanja as an example. “By presenting these awards, we hope they will serve as a testimony when these people can no longer serve.”

July 2025’s Top Ugandan Athletes Recognized

The ceremony, held at Lazio restaurant in Kololo, celebrated some of Uganda’s most outstanding sports personalities.

  • Boxing: Professional boxer Frank Kiwalabye was named the best boxer for July. He recently won the World Super Bantamweight title by defeating Tanzania’s Karimu Kasairo. Kiwalabye triumphed over fellow nominees Aziz Rigo and Catherine Nanziri.
  • Motorsport: The Mafu Mafu racing team, featuring driver Ponsiano Lwakataka and navigator Paul Musaazi, was recognized as the top racing team of July. Driving their Subaru Impreza N12B, they beat out strong competition from Hassan Alwi and Ronald Ssebuguzi, both driving Ford Fiesta Proto cars.
  • Lifetime Achievement: Football veteran Yusuf Kyuni Kyeyune received the Lifetime Achievement award. The accolade honors his significant contributions to Ugandan football, including playing, founding teams like State House, and mentoring key figures such as FUFA President Moses Magogo Hashim.

Since their inception in September 2018, the Real Stars Awards have played a crucial role in increasing competition and motivation among Ugandan athletes. The awards not only recognize current success but also build a permanent archive of the nation’s rich sports history.
