The Rotary Club has officially launched the 9th edition of the much-anticipated Rotary 5-a-side football tournament, promising a grander and more impactful event this year.
Scheduled for Saturday, 19th July 2025, the tournament will take place at the Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) Football Grounds in Bukoto.
Since its inception in 2015, the Rotary 5-a-side has grown into a beloved annual tradition, raising an impressive UGX 167.5 million for Rotary community service projects across Uganda.
At Wednesday’s launch event, Rotary official Nkangi Edward expressed pride in the tournament’s journey and its continued role in giving back.
“We are excited to be here launching yet another edition of the Rotary 5-a-side football tournament. Over the last 8 editions, it has raised over one hundred sixty-seven million five hundred thousand shillings that has gone to serving the less advantaged in our community,” Nkangi noted.
Highlighting the excitement and competitive spirit the tournament generates, Jamie Agaba, President of the Rotary Club of Nakasero Central, reflected on their 2024 victory.
“We had a lot of fun and the five million shillings that we won went towards our community service projects. We hope to win again this year,” he said.
Rotary District Governor, Ms. Christine Kawoya, applauded the initiative for blending fun with purpose.
“The Rotary 5-a-side is a wonderful activity that demonstrates the power of Rotary in uniting Rotarians, Rotaractors and corporates to raise funds for community service. I urge all Rotary Clubs in Uganda to participate and have fun,” she said.
This year’s prize money totals UGX 20 million, all earmarked to support Rotary community service projects.
Winners in each category, Rotary, Rotaract, and Corporate, will receive funds directed to their respective community initiatives.
