Batting fireworks lit up the MAXX tournament as Ruby claimed their first win in thrilling fashion, chasing down Sapphire’s formidable 204-run target with a powerful display of hitting.

On a day when bowlers struggled, the batters took center stage, delivering a spectacle for the fans.

Opting to bat first, Sapphire posted an imposing 204/4 in their 20 overs. Hamu Kayondo (42) anchored the innings, while Calvin Watuwa stole the show with an explosive 55* off just 26 balls, smashing five sixes.

Cyrus Kakuru (32) and Oloka Pius (27*) provided vital contributions, propelling Sapphire to a challenging total.

Ruby’s bowlers found it tough going, with Juma Miyaji (1/32) and Mathew Musinguzi (1/29) among the wicket-takers. However, the 19 extras conceded reflected their struggle to contain Sapphire’s batters.

In a 205 chase, Ruby’s innings was built around a stunning knock from Roger Galiwango Mukasa, who blazed his way to 90 off just 44 balls, hammering seven sixes and seven fours. His aggressive intent set the tone, even as wickets fell around him.

After a quick collapse in the middle overs, Fred Achelam’s fiery 29 off 12 balls and a breathtaking 44* off just 14 balls from Harsh Panchal turned the game in Ruby’s favour. Despite losing eight wickets, they reached 207 in 18.2 overs, securing a thrilling win.

Sapphire’s bowlers had a forgettable outing, with Oloka Pius (2/38) and Kakaire Geofrey (2/45) picking up wickets but failing to stem the flow of runs.

With momentum on their side, Ruby now faces Gold in their next encounter, while Sapphire will look to bounce back against Emerald on Thursday morning and evening respectively.
