Uganda Rugby Union and the Rugby Cranes have so far confirmed at least two warm-up games in the summer test window.
The Cranes have two test games in South Africa ahead of what is anticipated to be a hectic international window with the Rugby Africa Cup, Elgon Cup, Victoria Cup and Tunisia exchange program all set to happen post-June.
The Rugby Cranes will play Lipongo Bulls on June 29 in Nylstroom and the Loftus 200 team on July 6 at Quin & Bull in Pretoria. The two sides are part of the Blue Bulls organization.
These details were revealed by Ambassador Paul Amoru, High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to the Republic of South Africa in his meeting with Willem Strauss, President of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, and Alex Mubiru, Uganda’s Program Coordinator of the URU-BBRU initiative.
“We discussed the thriving URU-BBRU/Harlequins partnership and the upcoming South Africa tour for the Uganda Rugby Cranes XVs. From late June to early July, this tour is pivotal as the team sharpens their skills against teams like the Lipongo Bulls on June 29 in Nylstroom and the Loftus 200 team on July 6 at Quin & Bull,” said Ambassador Paul.
The Rugby Cranes will also be in the stands at Loftus Versfeld to watch Dr Rassie Erasmus’s World Champions South Africa take on the Six-Nations Champions Ireland on 7th July upon invitation from the Blue Bulls organization and the Ambassador.
Currently, there are seven contracted Ugandan players in South Africa for a high-performance camp. These are Sydney Gongodyo, Conrad Wanyama, Faraj Odugo, Byron Oketayot, Santos Ssenteza, Asuman Mugerwa, and Emong Eliphaz. These will later be joined by the extended Rugby Cranes squad.
