KCB KOBs Rugby Football Club delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday, February 1, as they defeated Buffaloes 26-10 away at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
The victory, which marked their third win of the season, came after a tough loss to Rhinos on the opening day of the campaign.
However, it was Joseph Aredo who truly stole the spotlight, putting on an exceptional display with four penalties and two conversions, ensuring the KOBs secured a crucial win in the Rugby Premiership.
After the match, Aredo was quick to acknowledge the contribution of the entire team, dedicating the victory to both his teammates and the passionate KOBs supporters.
“This win is for the team and fans,” Aredo said, reflecting on the significance of the win.
“Personally, I tried to do my best, as usual. Every day, you come out and give your best on the pitch. But today’s game reading was better than the first game.”
Aredo also highlighted how the team’s growth and chemistry were evident on the field, particularly in attack.
“We’ve been picking up as a team, and I credit this win to my number 9 and centers, who did their work and made attack very easy for me,” he said.
The team’s ability to capitalize on turnovers and exploit spaces was key to their success, and Aredo praised their tactical approach.
Despite the victory, KOBs’ discipline in giving away penalties remained a concern.
Aredo admitted that the team needs to address this issue, noting that they would focus on improving their discipline in upcoming training sessions.
“We are going to go back and work on the penalties,” Aredo said. “We have a few pillars we’re working on. Giving out penalties is a bit unprofessional, but we shall work on it.”
Aredo didn’t miss the chance to give credit to the coaching team, acknowledging their role in the team’s ongoing progress.
“Credit to the coaching team who have been pushing us every day to do better and work hard,” he said.
“We believe it’s mental, and the boys are proving every week, day in and out, that they are pushing their limits. An example is how hard we push in training, and how easy it becomes on game day.”
KOBs’ win wasn’t the only exciting result from the Rugby Premiership over the weekend.
Other matches saw the Eagles triumph 14-0 over Elgon Wolves, Rhinos Rugby fall 8-18 to defending champions Heathens RFC, and Pirates collect a 3-18 away victory from Mongers.
In another thrilling encounter, Hippos narrowly lost 11-15 to Walukuba, while Victoria Sharks bounced back to winning ways with a 9-34 victory over Warriors.
