Uganda’s rugby 7s season kicks off this weekend with the Kabaka Coronation 7s at Kyadondo Rugby Club from 2-3 August, the first of seven stops on the 2025 Uganda Rugby 7s Series.

Six core teams will battle in the women’s category: defending champions Avengers, Black Pearls, Thunderbirds, Nile Rapids, She Wolves, and the newly promoted Walukuba Titans. They’ll be joined by Central Region sides Ewes and Panthers.

Pool A: Avengers, Nile Rapids, She Wolves, Panthers

Pool B: Black Pearls, Thunderbirds, Walukuba Titans, Ewes

The Avengers start as favorites, but Thunderbirds and Black Pearls are ready to challenge.

Twelve core men’s teams will compete, including reigning champions Platinum Credit Heathens, Stanbic Black Pirates, Toyota Buffaloes, and new additions Kampani Eagles and Gulu City Falcons.

Four non-core sides from Central Uganda; Victoria Sharks, Impis, Warriors, and Kisubi Pacers join the fray.

Pool A: Heathens, Walukuba Barbarians, Eagles, Kisubi Pacers

Pool B: Pirates, Hippos, Elgon Wolves, Victoria Shark

Pool C: Buffaloes, Rhinos, Gulu City Falcons, Warriors

Pool D: KOBs, Mongers, Rams, Impis

Pool B is already being called the “Group of Death,” but every pool has matchups that could surprise.

Heathens and Avengers enter with targets on their backs, but with hungry challengers on all sides, the 2025 series promises plenty of upsets.
