There’s much to write about the opening activities of the 2023 Safari 7s, and Roy Bartholomew Kizito shining on debut is atop the list.
Roy Kizito, straight off confirming a switch from Impis to Premiership reigning champs Stanbic Black Pirates, was one of two new Cranes set to fly for their first time with the Rugby Sevens side.
Roy was welcomed onto the scene by his captain, who handed him a gift-wrapped try to open the score for Uganda on the weekend and inspire Uganda to a thunderous 35-00 win over the South Africa All Stars side.
Roy would grab a double in the second game against the Red Wailers with the second try, explicitly being a beautiful cut back inside to floor defenders and score.
Roy scored Uganda’s sole try against the Shujaa in a game strewn with handling errors, and Uganda lost 17-05.
The Lady Cranes pummelled Tropical 7s into oblivion with a resounding 38-00 win to start their weekend before falling to regional nemeses, Kenya Lionesses, losing 05-12 despite taking a 5-0 lead at some point.
Game three was one for the books, with skipper Peace Lekuru showing out with 4 tries to her name, Lydia Namabiro a brace and one from Racheal Mufuwa to lead Uganda to a 41-00 win against Tuks.
