Uganda Rugby Cranes 7s had a rough start to their Safari 7s campaign, falling 24–12 to Nyati in a match that exposed their inexperience and poor decision-making under pressure.
What looked like their easiest game on paper quickly turned sour as Nyati raced to a 12–0 lead within two minutes.
Allan Olango pulled one back, but the Cranes couldn’t find their rhythm, with five debutants struggling to match the pace and intensity.
A crucial error late in the first half deepened Uganda’s troubles. With a penalty and the halftime hooter gone, they chose a scrum instead of kicking to touch, a decision that backfired when Nyati forced a turnover and Bryan Oduor’s clever kick set up another try.
Daniel Otim’s brilliant solo effort in the second half offered a spark, but Nyati’s final try sealed a 24–12 defeat.
The Cranes will now aim to bounce back against Kenya 7s champions KCB Rugby before taking on Shogun in their remaining pool matches.
