As the number of Ugandan girls participating in football continues to rise, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is prioritizing their safety.
To achieve this, FUFA is calling on all Women Super League and Women Elite League clubs to nominate Safeguarding Officers and provide their information to FUFA on safeguarding@fufa.co.ug by Friday, July 19th, 2024.
The selected individuals will be responsible for ensuring that female footballers who are at risk of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and other vices including trafficking have a safe environment to live and play the beautiful game of football.
Nominees selected by the clubs will undergo specialized training led by two FIFA-certified Safeguarding Ugandan trainers, Sarah Birungi and Phiona Nsubuga Namutebi.
The roles of Safeguarding Officers will be to implement Safeguarding policies and procedures, and report any concerns or incidents.
In collaboration with FUFA, the Safeguarding Officers will ensure all clubs adhere to safeguarding best practices.
Also, they will provide support and guidance to players, staff and officials not forgetting to collaborate with FUFA in making sure there is compliance.
The programme supported by FIFA and CAF for its Member Associations is aimed at identifying and addressing risks in order to prevent any kind of harm or abuse.
