Ugandan goalkeeper Salim Jamal Magoola and Richards Bay FC gave their fans a day to remember on Sunday, winning the 2025 KZN Premier’s Cup with a 1-0 victory over Durban City.
The win, at the newly reopened Umhlathuze Sports Complex, marked the club’s first-ever KZN Premier’s Cup title, adding extra meaning to their homecoming.
In tricky conditions of wind and light rain, Richards Bay dominated much of the final. Siyabonga Nzama scored the winner in the second half, reacting quickest to a loose ball and firing low past the Durban keeper.
Salim Jamal played a key role throughout the tournament, showing composure and leadership from the back, especially in a tense semifinal earlier that same day.
After a 1-1 draw with Midlands Wonderous, Richards Bay won the shootout 4-3 to reach the final.
Durban City had stunned AmaZulu 3-2 in their semifinal, but couldn’t break through Jamal’s organized defense in the final.
More than just a pre-season trophy, the win signals intent from the “Natal Rich Boyz” ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign.
