Many sports events have failed to bounce back from the forced sports pause in the country due to the COVID 19 pandemic. It is almost a year now since the tight restrictions were lifted and events are slowly crawling back.

The latest to join the queue is the NSSF Kampala Armature Volleyball Club International tournament.

Akin to a norm, the 24th edition’s launch had schools battle it out in a one-day tournament of the Primary Schools Pre-championship at the Namugongo Secondary and Vocational School last Sunday.

“The best way to develop talent is by piquing interest in the grassroots. This is the main reason as to why we have been doing this for years and the fruits are evident in the national league and on the national team,” Cissy Musiime Byabaraire the Publicity Manager KAVC noted.

The event had U12 and U14 volleyball category for both boys and girls. The hot Sunday featured schools such as; Samaritan, Sunrise, Superior, Namugongo View, Rema and Prolane.

Based on the registered teams for the competition, the format of play for the U14 Girls was round robin from which the top schools were Samaritan and Sunrise. The two will face off in the finals.

For the boys, it was a pool system which gave birth to Namugongo View and Samaritan Primary school as the winners, who will battle for the top accolade in the finals.

In the U12 category, Samaritan and Namugongo View will meet in the boys finals while Samaritan will entertain Sunrise in the girls finals.

All finals will be played at Lugogo Indoor Arena on the closing day of the NSSF KAVC international tournament.
