Sana Omprakash Kayyar is giving a good account of herself at the World Youth Chess Championships currently taking place in Italy.

The teenager has taken the form that saw her win a silver medal at the Africa Youth Chess Championships back in September to the world stage.

The 15-year-old opened her campaign with victory over Valerie Ruchinskaya from Canada in the U16 Girls section.

She then outwitted WFM Chloe Bandenhorst from South Africa in the second round to ensure an unblemished start.

The outcome made it two out of two for her, leaving her as one of the only fifteen girls in her category with a 100% run at the Championship.

It is also an outcome that sees her rise to the top boards. Omprakash who won five out of eleven in her World debut in this same competition last year will face Michelle Trunz from Germany on board 7 in the third round.

Uganda’s other participants at this competition haven’t had the same start as Omprakash though.

Shoubith Omprakash Kayyar, a sibling to Omprakash lost both his opening rounds in the U14 Boys category.

In the U14 Girls section, Sherry Ariella Agaba also lost both her rounds.

The two youngsters will hope to put these defeats behind when they take to the board in the third round on Wednesday.

Omprakash will face Ezywell Mutema from Zimbabwe while Agaba will face Vera Zeng from Australia in that round.

Uganda entered four players for this competition, but after Olympian Patricia Kawuma missing her visa interviews, only three were maintained.
