- Sapphire 149/3 (Hamu Kayondo 65, Didier Ndikwibimana 48)
- Emerald 131/7 (Simon Ssesazi 51, Ronald Lutaaya 46)
- Sapphire won by 18 Runs
The MAXX tournament First Round Robin ended on a high note for Sapphire as they secured their second straight victory, defeating Emerald by 18 runs on Sunday.
Despite a rough start to the tournament, Sapphire has regained form just in time for the break.
Having suffered a heavy opening defeat to Gold, Sapphire showed signs of recovery with a six-wicket win over Ruby on Saturday.
They carried that momentum into Sunday’s clash, where their openers finally stepped up.
Didier Ndikwibimana (48) and Ham Kayondo (65) put on a solid partnership in a rain-affected game reduced to 18 overs, setting up a strong total.
Emerald’s chase started well, led by Simon Ssesazi’s 51, Charles Musemeza’s 19, and Ronald Lutaya’s 46. However, once they were dismissed, the rest of the batting lineup crumbled, handing Sapphire a comfortable win.
This result means all four teams in the tournament have now tasted defeat. Emerald, who had been unbeaten, remains at the top of the standings despite their loss.
Meanwhile, the morning game between Gold and Ruby was abandoned due to heavy rain in Kampala, with both teams sharing a point.
