Savio Kabugo Reveals Reasons Why Ugandan Players Fail to Make It Abroad

Ugandan defender Savio Kabugo has attached answers to the disturbing questions of why a vast number of highly talented Ugandan players fail to make it beyond borders.

It’s indeed a sad factual tale that a Ugandan player will lose their mojo once they set foot on foreign soil, particularly in North Africa and Europe.

Kabugo kicked off with greed among the football agents, whose only concern is their cut on the deal, rather than the big project – the player’s career.

“99% of our agents are after pocketing something and don’t care about players’ tomorrow, thats why most times they end up fighting with players and teams hence resulting into players contracts termination,” Kabugo said in a post on his social media handles.

The unprotective media

“Our media doesn’t protect their own players. Everyone is not perfect but our very own publish news of how their own players cheat age, injuries record and so on and so forth.”

He added: “teams outside Uganda believe that a good young player has to be taken to grassroot level (youth teams) so that they make a player they want, which some of our players can’t accept, because they want to go in team ‘A’ directly, which mostly fails us.”

He, however holds belief that’s it not all done for Ugandan players, asserting optimism that it won’t be too long before one joins a top European team.

“I think those are some of the reasons but talent-wise, we got it and in the future, we shall see our own in the Premier League, though we have to lift one another with love for a better Uganda.”
