SC Villa defender Arnold Odongo has vowed to help the club return to its former glory days in the Startimes Uganda Premier League.

Odongo made the remarks after Villa registered their first win of the season, defeating NEC 3-0 at Wankulukuku stadium on Friday.

Villa had lost their opening match of the season to Kitara 2-1 and drawn 1-1 with Maroons in their second match.

“It was a good performance from the team,” Odongo said.

“I believe if we can continue like this we can go far. I have managed to perform because of the support from the players and technical team.”

Odongo scored Villa’s third goal in the game, his second of the season after also scoring in the 1-1 draw with Maroons.

Umar Lutalo had given Villa a lead in the 10th minute before NEC’s John Paul Acire‘s own goal in the 42nd minute saw the home side pile pressure on the visitors.

NEC, who had earlier won their first two games against Busoga United (5-0) and Mbarara City (1-0), suffered their first defeat of the season.

Their assistant coach Dudu Bosco promised to rectify their mistakes.

“The early goals we conceded affected our plan,” Dudu said. “We shall rectify our mistakes going forward.”

Elsewhere, Kitara came from a goal down to beat Gaddafi 2-1 in Jinja.

Thomas Ochungo scored first for Gaddafi before Denis Omedi and George Ssenkaaba scored for Kitara to move them top of the standings with nine points.

In Bombo, Mulamba Blanchar and Kenneth Kimera were on target as Wakiso Giants defeated UPDF 2-0.
