SC Villa’s inconsistent season continued as they were held to a goalless draw by ten-man Mbarara City at Kakyeka Stadium in the Uganda Premier League on Saturday.
The Ankole Lions were reduced to ten men when defender Bakari Magumba was sent off for a reckless challenge on SC Villa winger Hakim Kiwanuka.
The visitors failed to take advantage of their numerical advantage, squandering several opportunities to break the deadlock.
Mbarara City, seeking their second win of the season, were forced into an early substitution when Pius Kagwa was replaced by Sadat Nsubuga.
Nsubuga’s introduction had little impact on the game, as he failed to provide any meaningful service to forwards Henry Kitegenyi and Joseph Akandwanaho.
Apart from two saves by Villa goalkeeper Norman Angufindu off Akandwanaho’s efforts, Mbarara City’s other clear chance, a goal from Kitegenyi, was ruled out for offside.
The result moved Villa to ninth place in the table, one point above 11th-placed City. BUL leads the league with 18 points.

The Giants took an early lead through an own goal by John Paul Acire, who deflected Titus Sematimba‘s effort into the net in the 16th minute.
However, the home side responded quickly, leveling the score four minutes later through Enock Ssebagaala.
The second half was briefly interrupted when a section of the stadium lights went out, but the game resumed after an eight-minute delay.
