- Police FC 1-3 SC Villa
SC Villa put on a commanding display to defeat Police FC 3-1 in a Uganda Premier League encounter on a rain-soaked afternoon at the Kavumba Recreation Ground.
The Jogoos showed their attacking intent from the outset, dominating possession and creating early chances. Hassan Mubiru came close to opening the scoring, but his powerful volley was cleared off the line in the opening exchanges.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 26th minute when Aslam Ssemakula rose highest to nod in a well-weighted cross from Elvis Ngonde, after some slick interplay with Mubiru.
Villa continued to press and were rewarded again just before halftime. Reagan Mpande unleashed a thunderous strike from the edge of the area in the 40th minute, leaving Police FC goalkeeper Sammon Oloka rooted to the spot as the visitors took a 2-0 lead into the break.
Police FC responded quickly after the restart. Umar Kasumba capitalized on a defensive mix-up and struck from range to bring the Cops back into the contest in the 49th minute. They nearly leveled the score when Reagan Male fired just wide after being set up by Ivan Eyamu, but it wasn’t to be.
With full-time approaching, SC Villa sealed the win in the 85th minute when Sula Matovu headed home from a perfectly delivered Mubiru corner, extinguishing any hopes of a Police FC comeback.
The result sees SC Villa climb to 6th on the 16-team table with 41 points from 28 matches, while Police FC remain in 12th place with 30 points.
