A long held dream grew more in Soroti as Soroti Cricket Academy (SCA) unveiled new batting nets, opening a fresh chapter for cricket in eastern Uganda.
The milestone was made possible by the Soroti Cricket Academy Carnival 2025, where the community came together to raise three million shillings.
Cricket Uganda added vital support by providing astral turf, reinforcing its commitment to grassroots growth.
For years, SCA thrived on determination more than facilities. Young players had to travel to Lugogo for proper training, an experience that offered exposure but came with high costs, disrupted schedules and constant strain on limited resources. Progress was slow, but belief in the region’s talent never faded.
That struggle has now eased. With batting nets in Soroti, players can train regularly at home, improving batting, bowling and wicketkeeping in a stable, structured environment. Money and energy once spent on travel can now go into coaching, equipment, nutrition and player welfare.
The impact goes beyond performance. The facility opens doors for girls, younger children and vulnerable players who previously found it hard to access the game. Cricket in Soroti becomes more inclusive, local and community-driven.
It also strengthens talent retention. With quality training available at home, promising players no longer need to leave early in search of opportunity.
Eastern Uganda can now develop and keep its best prospects, boosting its contribution to the national game.
More than a training space, the batting nets signal a shift in mindset from survival to growth.
They lay the foundation for school programs, women’s cricket, coaching clinics and stronger performance pathways.
Backed by community belief and Cricket Uganda’s support, the academy has taken a decisive step toward a stable and ambitious future for cricket in Soroti and beyond.
