Ugandan table tennis prodigies Joseph Sebatindira and Patience Anyango have been crowned African champions after standout performances at the 2025 Africa Hopes Week and Challenge in Lagos, Nigeria.

Sebatindira, 12, dominated the boys’ category, winning all 16 matches against the continent’s top U12 talent. The victory marks a huge leap from his silver medal finish last year in Botswana.

Anyango also impressed, going unbeaten through 12 tough rounds to retain her girls’ title. Her performance further cements her place among Africa’s most promising young players.

Their wins not only bring pride to Uganda but also earn them spots at the World Hopes Week and Challenge, set for October 13–19 in Sheffield, UK.

Next up for the young stars is the Africa Youth Championship, running from July 27 to August 3, also in Lagos. Uganda will compete in both the U15 and U19 categories.

The team is now complete with the arrival of Parvin Nangonzi, Jemima Nakawala, Patra Nasirumbi, Ibrahim Mutesasira, and Sharif Nsereko, ready to carry Uganda’s hopes at the continental stage.

Sebatindira, Anyango, Nakawala, Nsereko, and Nangonzi are also set to compete in the Africa Youth Cup on August 4–5.
