Second Round sparks FUFA Women Super League drama

Second round of the FUFA Women Super League begins this weekend with pressure building at both ends of the table, and the spotlight firmly on the leaders.

At the top, Kawempe Muslim Ladies resume their title push with a tricky away trip to face debutants St Noa Girls on Saturday at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Kawempe set the pace in the opening round through discipline and efficiency. But the second half of the season often shifts momentum, and every point now carries extra weight.

Their intent is clear. The signing of striker Zainah Nambozo from Asubo Ladies underlines their ambition and adds firepower to an already sharp attack. Still, this is no routine fixture.

St Noa Girls have impressed in their first topflight campaign. Sixth with 13 points from 10 matches, they have built their season on organisation, resilience and fearless displays against established sides. Wankulukuku has not been an easy ground for visitors.

Leadership could prove decisive. Anomo Barbara anchors St Noa with calm authority, while Kawempe captain Agnes Nabukenya brings experience and composure from past title runs.

St Noa have also welcomed back former teammate Sumaiyah Naluma, a return that could lift the squad also adding Martha Babirye from El Cambio Academy.

Elsewhere, the stakes are just as high. At St Gerald’s Stadium, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga host Lady Doves in a match with relegation implications. Lubaga, 10th, need points to ease the pressure.

Eighth placed Lady Doves know victory would give them breathing space. Brenda Munyana and Resty Kobusobozi will be key in attack for their respective sides.

In Luzira, She Maroons face Amus College in a crucial top four contest. Only a point separates them, 15 for She Maroons, 14 for Amus, making this clash vital in shaping their ambitions.

The survival fight takes centre stage in Soroti, where Olila High School search for their first win against Makerere University.

Makerere, ninth with 10 points, want to move further from danger, while Olila hope home ground advantage can spark their season.

Sunday keeps the intensity high. Title contenders Kampala Queens, third on 18 points, host Rines SS at Lugogo.

The Queens have been steady and clinical, but Rines, seventh with 11 points, have shown they can frustrate stronger opponents.

Second placed She Corporate travel to face bottom side Asubo Ladies at Kampala Quality Grounds.

She Corporate remain firmly in the title race and will aim to stay close to Kawempe, with Jesca Namanda leading their attack.

Asubo, with four points and still searching for a first win, face a daunting task but will draw hope from a fresh start in the second round.
