Security agencies are on high alert to prevent lawlessness during CHAN 2024

As the CHAN 2024 tournament approaches, security forces in Uganda have issued a warning to those planning to engage in various illegal activities, emphasizing that the country is determined to ensure this event runs smoothly.

At a press briefing held this morning, July 30th at Uganda Media Center, Uganda Police Force spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusoke Kituuma, delivered the warning.

In his statement, he said; “I want to inform you that we have security personnel stationed at the country’s different points. As law enforcement agencies, we have the responsibility to prevent criminal activities, and I assure you that we have been preparing for this situation. We are vigilant and will not hesitate to take action against anyone who breaks the law during this time.

“Among these are Conmen who often commit crimes related to tickets, smuggling deals involving gold, and many other forms of misconduct. I urge our people, including Ugandans and visitors, to avoid engaging in activities that could cause trouble at Namboole. he added;

“Groups of youth who use force and violence to steal people’s belongings, known locally as Eggaali will not be spared.”

Similarly, ACP Kituuma cautioned people against disorderly conduct when coming to watch the matches at Namboole.

“Crowds often bring many problems, most of which occur due to disorderly behavior, some of which harm innocent bystanders and others can put the offender’s own life at risk.”

Addressing the media, he also warned those who dress inappropriately, particularly women. “As you come to watch the games, I urge you to dress properly and not to be indecent. Especially women who dress inappropriately cause many problems; please avoid that.”

In the same vein, Uganda Traffic Police spokesperson, Michael Kananura, gave instructions regarding road usage during CHAN 2024.

He explained; “As Uganda hosts the CHAN 2024 matches expected to take place between August 2nd and 29 , I want to inform Ugandans that there will be changes in traffic management on certain roads, including the Entebbe Expressway up to Bwaise round about, to Yusuf Lule Road, the road from Busega to Wankulukuku Stadium, Yusuf Lule Road leading to Kadiba Stadium, Kira Road to Bukoto, from the junction at Kaleerwe to Namboole, and from Jinja Road roundabout to Kyambogo. From Naalya to Seeta, large vehicles will use the route from Kaleerwe roundabout to Mukono.”

A number of Five countries from the continent will be participating in Uganda for the tournament, including Niger, which arrived yesterday, along with Algeria, South Africa, Guinea, and Host Uganda
