Two of Uganda’s midfielders will spend the 2026 season in new colours after New York Red Bull II confirmed season-long loans for Steven Serwadda and Ibrahim Kasule to MLS NEXT Pro newcomers Connecticut United.

The moves keep both players within the MLS NEXT Pro setup while offering fresh challenges at an ambitious expansion side.

For Sserwadda and Kasule, it is a chance for regular minutes, added responsibility and another step forward in their American journey.

For Sserwadda, the loan closes one chapter and opens another after four steady seasons with Red Bull II.

The Kampala-born midfielder made 63 appearances, scoring four goals and providing four assists, while establishing himself as a dependable presence in midfield.

He joined the Red Bulls system in 2021, debuted in the USL Championship and later progressed to MLS NEXT Pro, earning two Major League Soccer appearances with the senior New York Red Bulls.

A former KCCA FC player with league and cup honours, Sserwadda has also represented Uganda at U-20 and U-23 level and owns four senior international caps.

Kasule leaves as one of Red Bull II’s most influential players. The Buikwe native departs as the club’s all-time leading scorer, with 28 goals and 11 assists in 64 appearances over three seasons.

His standout 2023 campaign brought MLS NEXT Pro Best XI honours, multiple Player of the Month awards, a seven-game scoring run and a hat trick against Crown Legacy FC.

That form earned him senior Red Bulls opportunities and a place in Uganda’s national team, where he has featured in World Cup qualifiers.

At Connecticut United, the Ugandan duo are expected to play key roles as the club begins life in MLS NEXT Pro, leaning on their experience to help shape a strong first season.
