Shanita Chebet, Shamaiah Chebet and Zuena Mbabazi of Shakina Glory Christian International School, from Mbale Golf Club, took a dominant role at the third US Kids Golf Tour today, Sunday, October 5, at Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.
The tournament, which attracted over 60 players from various Golf Clubs across the country, saw Mbale bring in eight players, and all of them managed to climb with medals.
Joseph Chebet, who is the teacher who traveled with the junior golfers, praised the courage shown by his players: “I praise our players for the determination and perseverance they showed. Winning in Kampala is not easy since back in Mbale the equipment is more difficult to acquire than here in Kampala, but our students managed to stay resilient and perform.”
Shanita Chebet, who won the girls’ age group 12-15 with a score of 89 stroks, Shamaiah Chebet and Bliss Wamai, who also won the girls’ and boys’ under 12 category, while Zuena Mbabazi won the 15-18 category, were the leading golfers for the Mbale-based club.
Zuena Mbabazi, after the victory, said, “We have played on three courses, but for me, I would prefer Entebbe. Here, the greens are a bit difficult, though it “It is a good opportunity to win from here.”
After the third series, US Kids Golf Tour Director in Uganda, Theodor Van Rooyen, explained, “US Kids Golf Tour, our goal is to discover and develop youth around the world. Here in Uganda, we do these tours in various golf clubs and have traveled three rounds of the six series we have to play.”
The event this year teed off on September 7 at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Club, with the second taking place on September 21 at Entebbe Golf Club.
After the three tours, three more tours will be played, and the next one will be played on the 19th of October, on 2nd and 16th of November.
After playing these series, the eight best players will represent Uganda at the International Tour, which will take place from the 14th to 16th of December in Dubai.
