She Cranes draw tough Pool A as Africa Netball Cup campaign looms

Fresh off their triumphant run at the 2025 Celtic Cup in Glasgow, the She Cranes have little time to rest.

Uganda’s women’s netball team now shifts focus to the Africa Netball Cup, set for December 8–14 in Lilongwe, Malawi, an event that also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney.

The competition, to be held at the Griffin Saenda Sports Complex, offers Uganda another chance to edge closer to World Cup qualification.

Their strong performance in Glasgow boosted their rankings as they await confirmation, but the team also hopes to build on that momentum in Malawi.

Uganda enters the tournament eager to right the wrongs of last year, when they lost 65–50 to South Africa’s Spar Proteas in the final.

That defeat followed a two-year break in the Uganda Netball Super League, a pause many believe affected their competitive edge.

The official draw, announced during the Celtic Cup week, placed the She Cranes in Pool A alongside regional rivals Kenya, as well as Zimbabwe and Namibia.

It’s a balanced but demanding group, yet Uganda remains the team to beat based on current form.
