She Cranes start preparations for Vitality Netball Nations

Uganda Netball National Team, the She Cranes has today 6th January 2025 started preparations for the Vitality Netball Nations Cup which is due to take place in the United Kingdom.

A group of 20 players were summoned by the technical department after switching to Coach Rashid Mubiru who replaced the outgoing Nelson Bogere.

Under interim coaches, the team took the first session at Makerere Main Ground with all home-based players on the team taking part in the session.

In his stewardship, Mubiru is assisted by Ruth Meeme, a former star in the national colours at both the local and international games.

A fresh crop of players including; Penelope Amiya (NIC), Hindu Namutebi (Police), Nasim Mutesi (NIC), and Joan Rycoboth (St. Mary’s Kitende) along with Veterans Sylvia and Rachael Nanyonga who returned and they were part of the training.

Meanwhile, foreign-based players like Mary Nuba Cholhok, Stella Oyella and Faridah Kadondi will join the team later but the dates were not disclosed.

The She Cranes will compete against hosts England, South Africa, and Malawi at the 2025 Vitality Netball Nations Cup scheduled for February 1-9 at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England.

Defence: Sandra Nambirige (NIC), Sylvia Nanyonga (Prison), Gloria Aya (NIC), Nassim Mutesi (NIC), Christine Nakitto (KCCA), Muhammad Hanisha, Privas Kayen (NIC), and Dorah Nakijoba (UPDF).

Centre: Fildauce Namulema (NIC), Melissa Akello (Prison), Amiya Penelope (NIC), Joan Rynoboth (St Mary’s Kitende), Hindu Namutebi (Police), Margaret Baagala (NIC), and Lillian Achola (Weyonje).

Shooters: Shadia Nassanga (KCCA), Christine Namulumba (Prison), Babra Namukasa (Police), Rachael Nanyonga (NIC), Stella Oyella, Merry Nuba, and Irene Eyaru (KCCA).
