In Ngora, where the immediate effect is set to take place, the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Chairperson for Kumi district announced plans to organize a badminton tournament during a Shuttle Time visit at Dr. Oporu Memorial School.
Speaking at the Badminton Uganda initiative, USSSA Kumi district Chairperson, who is also the hosting school’s head teacher, Simon Ekabot, highlighted, “It is an exciting sport. Personally, being the coordinator, it is not new to me. I even attended the AGM in Kampala, but people here have liked the sport. Even the learners are very excited to start the sport, and the teachers who remain in the staff room are saying it is an easy sport.
Though we started with a few people near this area since it is an eye opener, we are going to roll it forward. As the Chairman of USSSA Kumi district, I will organize a tournament in the district. I appreciate Badminton Uganda for the initiative, this training, and the equipment which we will just add on to have the game of badminton put in play.”
Badminton Uganda continues its tour aimed at spreading the sport in different parts of Uganda, with the next stop set for April 2 at Bekedea Secondary School in Bukedea District.
The program, in its second phase, has so far benefited 40 game teachers combined from Ngora and Kumi District Stops, adding to 120 teachers that were included in the first phase that covered across five districts.
So far, the program has covered districts like Rwampara, Pader, Iganga, Kayunga, Nakaseke, and most recently Ngora and Kumi as it sticks to training and providing starting equipment to games teachers and students to give them an opportunity to become Badminton technical officials and players.
