The sixth Table Tennis Jinja Open has been launched, setting up another exciting weekend for one of East Africa’s fastest-growing tournaments.
The event was unveiled on Tuesday, November 18, at the City Tyres Headquarters in industrial Area 6th street, ahead of its return to St. Andrews Church Hall in Jinja on November 22–23, with organisers expecting more than 400 participants.

Daphine Musimenta, a coach, said the tournament has become a key platform for developing young talent.
“Jinja Open is one of the biggest tournaments in East Africa. Players look forward to it, and it has helped us nurture kids who are now competing on the Africa podium,” she said.
Herbert Bashasha, Mandela Group’s Head of Marketing and Communications, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to grassroots sports.

He noted that their support for youth sports has already paid off in football, badminton, and table tennis.
This year’s package includes trophies, officiating allowances, player transport, umpire shirts, and extra rewards such as Supreme maize flour for winners.
The total prize purse is UGX 4 million, shared across U13, U19, senior, and corporate categories for both men and women.
Players from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and beyond are expected, strengthening the Jinja Open’s status as a major regional event and an important stop on East Africa’s table tennis calendar.
