The 2025 USSSA Boys Football Championship has reached its business end with four giants, St Mary’s Kitende (SMASK), Buddo SS, Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) and Bukedea Comprehensive School (BCS), booking their places in the semifinals after an eventful day of quarter-final action at Ngora High School playground.
- SMASK too strong for Kibuli
St Mary’s School, Kitende underlined their title credentials with a commanding 3-0 win over Kibuli SS.
Claude Wakenge opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute after a controversial call involving a collision with the goalkeeper.
Dennis Kisiriko doubled the lead early in the second half, before Arafaat Nkoola sealed the deal with a towering header in the 69th minute.
- Buddo edge Uganda Martyrs
Fellow Wakiso zone contenders Buddo SS also advanced after edging past Uganda Martyrs High School 1-0 in a tightly contested affair.
Buddo’s disciplined display earned them a semifinal clash with Bukedea Comprehensive School.
- Bukedea hold nerve again
Bukedea Comprehensive School, representing the Teso zone, continued their dramatic run with another penalty shootout triumph, this time against Kyadondo SS.
After a 1-1 draw in regulation, thanks to a goal by captain Godfrey Ssekibengo, Bukedea emerged 9-8 winners from the spot.
This marked their second shootout victory of the tournament, having earlier edged Mvara SS in similar fashion.
- JIPRA marches on
Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) was the first team to reach the last four, courtesy of a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mentor SS from Lira.
Richard Okello, the Uganda U-17 captain, scored the decisive goal in front of a lively crowd.
JIPRA’s journey has been impressive, including a 3-1 victory over reigning champions St Julian in the round of 16.

The semifinals promise intense battles, with SMASK set to face JIPRA in a duel of regional champions while Buddo and Bukedea renew a rivalry that lit up last year’s tournament.
