Uganda’s dominance at the CAF Africa Schools Championship continued to sparkle as St Mary’s Kitende (SMASK) and St Noa Girls Secondary School – Zana secured their spots in the semifinals with emphatic victories on Thursday evening in Accra.
From the boys’ and girls’ pitches, the Ugandan representatives displayed class, control and character, writing a proud chapter in their schools’ sporting legacy.
St Noa Girls wrapped up the group stages with a statement performance, defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-0 to top Group B with a perfect record.
The trio of Brenda Nassaka, Lydia Namaseruka and Grace Kawino were on target as St Noa finished their group campaign unbeaten, unbreached and unmatched three wins, seven goals scored, none conceded.
Their road to the semis included a gutsy 1-0 win over defending champions South Africa in the opener, thanks to a clinical finish from Kawino, followed by a commanding 3-0 win against The Gambia where Lillian Nabukeera grabbed a brace and Kawino added another.
They now prepare for a clash against Group A runners-up Morocco in the semifinal, brimming with confidence and cohesion.
On the boys’ side, St Mary’s Kitende (SMASK) sent a strong message with a 4-1 demolition of South Africa, showcasing flair and fluidity. Henry Muhoozi opened the scoring early in the 9th minute, and Nabir Kajjumba doubled the lead in the 20th.
Ashraf Kyakuwa and Yasin Nsubuga added more gloss to the scoreline with South Africa only managing a consolation goal. Kitende’s clinical execution earned them a deserved place in the semifinals.
With the semifinals looming, both Ugandan teams stand just two steps away from continental glory and a substantial prize.
The tournament awards $300,000 to the winners, $200,000 to runners-up and $150,000 to third place, earmarked for supporting educational and development projects in their respective schools.
