Soroti University’s maiden journey in the University Football League has come to an abrupt and painful end after the institution was suspended for one season following a disciplinary ruling over the use of impersonators.

In a decision that sent shockwaves through the league, the Disciplinary Committee found Soroti University guilty of fielding impersonator(s) during their matches.

The verdict was later upheld by the Appeals Committee, confirming a one-season suspension and bringing an early close to what had begun as a promising debut campaign.

Drawn in Group C of the 2025/26 season, Soroti University entered the competition with optimism and ambition.

As new entrants, the Soroti-based side made an encouraging first impression, grinding out a disciplined 0–0 away draw against Busitema University in their opening match.

That solid start was followed by a historic first win, briefly placing Soroti among the competition’s exciting new stories.

However, their momentum was checked by a heavy 6–0 defeat to Nkumba University, a result that later took on greater significance.

Soon after, disciplinary processes were triggered, leading to investigations that concluded Soroti University had used ineligible players.

The breach was deemed serious, prompting the suspension that was officially announced in February 2026.

The ruling means Soroti University will miss the entire next season, a major setback for a side still finding its footing on the national university football stage.

The decision wipes out their remaining fixtures in the current campaign and halts the progress of a squad that had begun to show signs of growth.

For Soroti University, the debut season will now be remembered as a mix of early promise and harsh lessons.

For the league, the ruling shows a firm commitment to integrity, fairness and strict adherence to player eligibility rules.
