Sports Facilities Development: Kamwenge District Council pays NCS courtesy visit to benchmark

Kamwenge District Council paid a courtesy visit to the Uganda National Council of Sports to benchmark sports facility development in Kamwenge Town Council.

The team of more than 10 dignitaries from the Rwenzori region was led by Chief Administrative Officer Hanny  Turyahebwa, District Chairman Joseph Karungi and Sports Officer Melon Kyalisiima on 5th March 2025.

The visit which started with a walk around the National Council of Sports facilities in place guided by Sarah Chellangat ended with meeting the NCS General Secretary who welcomed the idea tabled in front of him.

“Our mandate as National Council of Sports is to work closely with local governments in developing sports in our country. We have been lacking in the area of facilities and we will look forward to supporting Kamwenge district to see them putting up an international facility.”

“At the moment few regions have benefited from facility development funds from the government and the likes of Masaka, Hoima and Mbarara are among the good examples.

“If we are  to develop sports and talents we need facilities.”

District chairman Joseph Karungi commented;

“It’s proud to get this warm welcome from NCS and in fact, they have upbeat our idea us we looked at a local level but is a chance game to have an international one that will be fantastic”

District sports office Kyalisiima commented; “We are looking forward to having many sports complexes. In Kamwenge Land is there, we want facilities which can accommodate a minimum of 15 sports disciplines.”

Currently, Kamwenge district has one sports complex in place located at Rwamwanja but the district seems not to be contented if they are to develop viral talents from the Rwenzori region.
