The 2026 Wakiso zone championship opened on April 8, with 45 teams vying for 5 slots in the USSSA boys’ football national championship at Lira Town College in early May.

Akram Ssegawa shone with five goals as his school, St Mary’s College Migadde, won against City Revival 9-0.

Kasim Yiga also scored twice in the game played at Mwererwe main ground, while Abdul-Rahman Mutebi and Ryan Jingo, who scored the opening goal of the match, both scored once, adding to Ssegawa’s tally.

In the early morning games, Abrose Aboyi also scored five goals as Buddo SS humbled Wampeewo Ntake 7-0. Abaasi Kisambira was another player on the score sheet.

From the most entertaining game of the day to drama when a game between St Noa Girls and Kawempe Royal in the Girls Qualifier got called off when the teams had already completed the warm-up, set to kick off the fixture paused to wait for the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony, the DEO Wakiso District, Prim Rose Nanyanzi.

Earlier in the day, District defending Champion St Mary’s Kitende had to play against Andy Mwesigwa Comprehensive, who failed to show up on the pitch, leaving SMASK to wait until the game was also sent to the boardroom, which will likely award the points to Kitende.

In the other game between Kasenge High School, two players were arrested over game appearance but were missing in the school team album, as one of the two was again reported to be overage. In contrast, the game started without Kasenge High School displaying their album, and the organising committee failed to do the needed in time.

Meanwhile, Kyadondo SS defeated Ndejje High Lubugumu 1-0, Greenlight Islamic defeated Light High 1-0, St Austine won 3-2 over Elight High School And elsewhere in the girls’ qualifier, St. Noa Girls defeated Kawempe Royal 5-0 in the rescheduled match, which was played for only 30 minutes, with each half lasting only 15 minutes.

Games shall commence on April 9 across 11 venues within the Matugga zone with four pitches located at the main venue in Mwererwe.
