The Uganda Cricket Cranes have departed for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, with spinner Henry Ssenyondo returning to the squad. The team was officially flagged off on Thursday, September 11, for their tour of South Africa before heading to Harare, Zimbabwe, for the main tournament.
The Road to Zimbabwe: Training and Warm-ups
The journey begins in South Africa, where the team will play three crucial trial games. Assistant Coach Jackson Ogwanga highlighted the importance of this preparatory tour, stating, “We are going to South Africa to continue improving our patterns… we are looking to improve them.”
Following their time in South Africa, the Cricket Cranes will travel to Harare on September 18. There, they will face Namibia on September 22 and Malawi on September 24 in two final warm-up matches.
Qualifiers and Group Stage Challenge
Uganda has been placed in Group B of the qualifiers alongside hosts Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Botswana. The tournament, which runs from September 26 to October 5, is the team’s chance to secure a back-to-back appearance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup finals. Their first qualification was for the 2024 event held in the West Indies and United States, and they are now aiming for the upcoming tournament in India and Sri Lanka.
