The Masaza Cup organizing committee has awarded Ssingo a crucial victory, giving them three points and a 3-0 win in their match against Butambala. The decision follows a controversial incident where the Butambala team walked off the pitch, leading to the game’s abandonment.
The ruling has had a significant impact on the Muganzirwazza group standings. Ssingo now sits in second place with 13 points from eight games, moving ahead of Kooki, who have 12 points.
The Butambala Walk-Off
The abandoned match was initially reported as a 0-0 draw. However, the committee’s decision was based on a review of the game, which was stopped when Butambala players exited the field after Ssingo scored. The goal itself occurred under unusual circumstances, with two extra balls on the pitch during the attack.
Following the incident, the Butambala county chief, Haj Sulaiman Magala, took back control of the team from the appointed management.
Playoff Race Heats Up
The boost in points puts Ssingo in a strong position to secure a spot in the next round of the Masaza Cup. Meanwhile, Kooki now finds itself in the “best loser” slots, a position they will need to fight to maintain. The competition for these coveted spots is fierce, with Ssese and Buddu from the Bulange group and Mawokota and Kyadondo from the Masengere group also in contention.
