Ssingo secured their place in the last 8 of the 2024 Masaza Cup after a convincing 1-0 victory over Kyaggwe on Sunday 18 August 2024. The match, held at Mukono Bishops – home of Kyaggwe, saw midfielder Ibrahim Ssengooba score the winning goal in the 71st minute.

The goal was a result of beautiful play from Calvin Peter Emayu, a second half substitute for Kenneth Ssebaduka. Emayu’s shot was blocked by Kyaggwe goalkeeper Elton Mwidu but Ssengooba picked up the rebound and found the back of the net.

The win saw Ssingo complete the double over Kyaggwe having earlier defeated them 2-0 in Mityana, in first leg. With the result Ssingo reached 17 points from 7 games in the Muganzirwazza group.

After the crucial win, Ssingo tactician Simon Peter Mugerwa spoke to the media: “I am proud of our team, we executed our game plan and the result is now secured. We are turning focus on next game,” he said.

Goal scorer and star of the day Ssengooba expressed his relief at the result saying: “It has been a very tricky game but Allah has made the better team win. It has been a very competitive contest, you can see injuries on both sides.”

Hooliganism Mars Buwekula-Mawogola Clash

The other Muganzirwazza group fixture between Buwekula and Mawogola didn’t reach the final whistle, with scenes of hooliganism that occurred in the first leg in Mubende repeating, leaving Buwekula Technical director in the Sick bay.

The other game was between Gomba and Kooki who were involved in a bottom of the group scrap for points and the game ended in a 1- all draw with Joseph Odong scoring for Kooki to cancel out Alex Kizza’s opener.

Other Groups

The same day, in Masengere group, also saw another on form Side Kabula reach 16 points with a 2-1 win over Buvuma. Kabula’s goals came through Edwin Aguma and an own goal from Samuel Nantajja, while Derrick Ssemugooma scored the consolation for Buvuma.

Kabula now leads the group with a 3 points advantage over Busujju who got held to a 1-1 draw by Busiro with Eddie Bulwanyi and Shakib Mayanja scoring for either sides, repectively.

In the same group on Saturday 17 August 2024 Ssese defeated Mawokota 1-0 at Lutoboka courtesy of a Jordan Ariaka goal.

In Bulange group, Buddu got their campaign back on track with a narrow 1-0 win over Butambala thanks to Martin Nsubuga’s goal. The result helped Buddu to reach second place in a group which is led by Buluuli.

Buluuli is tallying 13 points following a second successive draw that came in a game against Bulemeezi, at Kakooge.

The game ended 2-2 with defending champions Bulemeezi continuing their struggles by throwing away the lead in the dying minutes of the game.

Buluuli has to be grateful to forward Robert Ssewanyana who rescued a point from the jaws of defeat with a goal that took his goal tally to 5, as a joint top scorer of the campaign along with Kabula’s Irivai Mamul.

In another game of Bulange group Bugerere fought from a goal behind to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw against Kyadondo.

Henry Wamala’s goal for Bugerere denied Kyadondo the opportunity to walk away with maximum points having taken the lead through Marvin Praise Wambuga’s strike.
