St. Lawrence University coach Davis Nnono felt his side did not do enough despite thrashing Gulu University 4-1 in the University Football League on Thursday.
“We still have a lot to rectify,” Nnono said.
“But we shall improve as the tournament progresses. I give credit to Gulu since we gave away a lot of chances just like we also missed them. Our opponents had tried to stop us from playing and this is an area we want to work on.”
Fahad Aniku, Osuman Kembo, Martin Kikambi, and Ivan Ssemujju were on target for St. Lawrence, while Derrick Ssengendo scored a consolation for Gulu.
The result saw St. Lawrence move to nine points in Group E from three games, while Nkumba comes second with four points.
International University of East Africa (IUEA) comes third with two points, while Gulu is bottom with one point.
Despite Gulu’s humiliation, their coach Robert Omony was impressed with the performance of his players.
“Even if today we lost, we tried to play our way,” Omony said.
“The team we faced has been together for a long time, unlike us who are still in an amateur setting. We also played well, but we struggled in the final third. But we shall try to work on that.”
“We shall give them a better challenge when we host them. In our other departments, we tried to live up to the task.”
