St. Mary’s College Kisubi defeated Kira College Butiki 2-1 in a dramatic final to win the inaugural FUFA TV Cup on Saturday.
The game was played on a sunny day at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku, Kampala.
In the first half, both teams played a defensive style of play, with no clear chances of penetration.
However, the deadlock was broken in the 32nd minute when Gift Fred Mutalya scored a beautiful goal for Kira College Butiki to take the lead.
St. Mary’s College Kisubi responded quickly, equalizing through Jimmy Ambayo in the 34th minute. The first half ended with the score level at 1-1.
The second half was a more open affair, with both teams creating chances.
In the 90th minute, Griffin Mwesigwa scored the winning goal for St. Mary’s College Kisubi to complete the comeback.
Kira College Butiki had a chance to equalize from the corner in the dying minutes, but Arthur Etyanga’s header went wide.
The final whistle was met with scenes of celebration from the St. Mary’s College Kisubi fans, who had seen their team lift the FUFA TV Cup for the first time.
Ronald Mugalu‘s side became the first team to lift the FUFA TV Cup title in the history of the competition.
The tournament had 8 teams, 36 goals scored, 13 games played and one champion.
