With few weeks to the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers to start, the Uganda’s representatives Kampala Queens FC had a friendly game as part of the preparations.

Kampala Queens FC were held by 2022 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Champions St. Noa in a practice match played at MTN-Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Strong start by St. Noa

St. Noa scored through Sarah Babirye who brilliantly beat the defenders and clinically curled the ball to the right top corner in just 20 minutes to put her side in the lead.

The visitors managed to hold their lead in the first stanza of the game to leave more work to be done for Kampala Queens FC in the second half.

The Queens of Soccer eventually found the equalizer in the 70th minute when Zainah Nandede and Grace Aluka combined brilliantly to find a well positioned Damali Matama who made no mistake and put the ball at the back of the net to level scores.

The Charles Ssenyange coached side tried to find the winning goal but no worthwhile chance was granted by the well organized visitors.

This was the second time the two teams have faced off in practice matches with Kampala Queens FC comfortably winning the first one 3-1.

Kampala Queens to step up preparations

Kampala Queens FC have so far played four friendly games, winning three, drawing once, scoring 18 times and conceding five.

Coach Charles ‘Kadidi’ Ssenyange was pleased with the team’s performance.

““Am happy that my Queens are adopting what we are trying to build, I loved the way they enjoyed the game and for us as technical team we shall keep on doing our best to ensure we achieve the dream” he said.

Last week, the club’s head of communication confirmed that the team will also play some international friendly games before the start of CECAFA qualifiers.

The 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers will be played between 12th and 30th August this year in Uganda.

The Queens of Soccer were pitted in group A alongside CBE FC (Ethiopia) Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan) FAD FC (Djibouti) and Bujja Queens (Burundi).

All group A games will be played at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
