Defending Champions Vipers SC narrowly defeated Mbarara City FC 1-2 on Wednesday in the first leg of their Stanbic Bank Uganda Cup semi-final tie at Kakyeka Stadium.
Old boy Paul Mucurezi gave the visitors the lead in the 40th minute before Milton Karisa doubled it five minutes later hence a two goals lead into the break.
The Kitende outfit should have extended their lead in the second half, but it was Mbarara who scored with Seiri Arigumaho, pulling one back in the 82nd minute.
The hosts pushed further for the all important equalizer but efforts particularly from Gadaffi Kacancu, Solomon Okwalinga and Henry Kitegenyi were all in vain, for the game to finish 1-2 in the guests’ favour.
The second legs of the Uganda Cup semi-finals will be played next week with BUL FC hosting Booma FC on Tuesday 17th May in Jinja (BUL lead the tie 5-0).
Meanwhile, a day later, Vipers will host the Ankole Lions at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in what promises to be a mouthwatering encounter.Courtesy Photos
