Home Cricket Cricket Cranes T20 World Cup: Roger Mukasa makes squad for global qualifiers

Cricket Cranes Captain Brian Masaba will be without his Vice Deus Muhumuza for the ICC T20 World Cup Group B qualifier in Zimbabwe.

Muhumuza failed to make the final 14 man squad following an injury he picked during the ICC Challenge League B tournament that was held in Kampala last month.

His absence however has given birth to the return of on-form opening batsman and former captain Roger Mukasa to the Cricket Cranes fold.

“We have two changes in the squad. Muhumuza is out but Mukasa, Arnold Otwani and Zephaniah Arinaitwe were all set to replace him,” Captain Masaba noted adding that the depth of the team is a big plus.

Uganda currently with an opening batsmen pair problem hopes that Mukasa’s experience is the answer to give Simon Ssesazi more confidence.

Cranes needs only three good results (read three wins) from his combination with Ssesazi to progress to the next round.

Two teams have a chance to book their tickets to Australia for the marquee event later this year.

“I am excited to be back into the team, I was unavailable for the previous engagements due to work commitments but I have been working out to stay in shape. The trail games helped me a lot to get the selectors attention and now, I want to help my country qualify for the World Cup,” a delighted Roger Mukasa explained.

The second and last change from the team that played in the challenge league B saw batsman Emmanuel Hasahya displaced by fast bowler Bilal Hassun.

And according to coach Laurence Mathatlane, the squad is a balanced one and will deliver.

“The boys are good and ready to go. We had to balance the team heading into this more explosive version of the game hence bringing in a pace bowler. For Mukasa, he will bring experience and leadership to the side,” Mathatlane told the press.
