Tanzania wrapped up the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier A tournament with a 19-run victory over Malawi, securing the championship in an exciting finale.
Batting first, Tanzania faced early struggles as they lost wickets at regular intervals. However, Abhik Patwa (30 off 27 balls) and Harsheed Chohan (26 off 11 balls) steadied the innings, with contributions from K Nassoro (22 off 23 balls) helping them post a respectable total of 119/10 in 19.4 overs.
In response, Malawi got off to a decent start, with Sami Sohail playing a vital knock of 38 off 27 balls, supported by Donnex Kansonkho who scored 21 off 17 balls.
Despite their efforts, Malawi’s middle and lower order struggled against the Tanzanian bowlers. Khalidy Juma Amiri delivered a crucial performance, taking 3-17 in 4 overs, while Sanjay Thakor (2-17) and Akhil Anil (1-5) provided key breakthroughs.
Malawi was eventually bowled out for 100 in 20 overs, handing Tanzania a hard-fought win and the tournament championship.
Cameroon Secure 9-Wicket Win Over Lesotho
Cameroon delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Lesotho by 9 wickets. Batting first, Lesotho faced a challenging spell from the Cameroonian bowlers, with Brian Dipita leading the charge, taking 3-15 in 4 overs.
J Abega (2-3 in 2 overs) and Roger Duplex Atangana Awono (2-0) dismantled Lesotho’s batting lineup, restricting them to just 47 runs in 10 overs. Only Mohamad Maaz Khan (10 off 8 balls) managed to reach double figures for Lesotho, as they crumbled under pressure.
In reply, Cameroon made light work of the chase. Bruno Nseke Toube played a brilliant knock, smashing 44 off 28 balls, with a single wicket falling in the innings. Cameroon comfortably chased down the target, finishing at 48/1 in 8 overs, securing a solid win to close out their tournament on a high note.
Ghana Cruise to a 10-Wicket Win Over Mali
Ghana finished their campaign with a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over Mali. Mali’s top order collapsed under the pressure of Ghana’s disciplined bowling attack.
Obed Harvey delivered an outstanding performance, taking 4 wickets for just 5 runs in 2 overs, while Lee Nyarko claimed 3-3 in 4 overs, leaving Mali in disarray. Mali managed to post just 24 runs in 10.3 overs, with Mahamadou Malle (8 off 27 balls) being the only player to offer any resistance.
Ghana’s chase was clinical and quick, with Samson Awiah scoring an explosive 18 off 9 balls, and Richmond Baaleri adding 9 off 5 balls to see Ghana reach the target with ease, finishing at 27/0 in 2.2 overs.
