Team Ageno once again proved their dominance in women’s basketball by successfully defending their title at the 2025 All-Star Women’s Tournament.
In a tense and dramatic final at Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Sunday, Team Ageno edged past Team Kamwada with a 52-48 victory, sealing their place at the top of the tournament for another year.
Led by Sarah Ageno, the experienced forward for JT Lady Jaguars and the Gazelles, Team Ageno showed their composure and resilience when it mattered most.
The defending champions found themselves in a tight contest, but their ability to execute in crunch time made the difference.
With less than a minute to play, Team Kamwada held a 48-47 lead, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.
But the game took a dramatic turn when Margaret Bagala intercepted an inbound pass from Shakirah Nanvubya and was fouled as she drove to the basket.
Bagala converted the basket and completed the three-point play at the free throw line, giving Team Ageno a slender but crucial two-point lead.
Team Kamwada, desperate to respond, suffered another costly turnover, allowing Fildauce Namuleme to step up to the free-throw line.
She calmly sank both shots, securing the 52-48 victory for Team Ageno and igniting celebrations among their supporters.

The tournament was more than just about competition. The day began with a mentorship program for young players where both current and former basketball stars engaged with kids, sharing life skills and basketball lessons.
The exhibition games also brought an extra layer of excitement. A Banking team took on the Parliament of Uganda, securing a 60-52 win in a spirited encounter.
Meanwhile, the Legends game saw Team Franceas defeat Team Viola as former basketball stars showcased their enduring talent and reminded fans of their glory days.
To add to the entertainment, music stars King Saha and Vinka lit up the event with electrifying performances, ensuring the crowd was engaged both on and off the court.
Team Ageno’s triumph was not just about the title; it came with a Shs3 million cash prize, while Team Kamwada walked away with Shs2 million.
Individual brilliance was also celebrated, with Sarah Ageno earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Mercy Batamuliza, Ageno’s teammate at Lady Jaguars but a key player for Team Kamwada, was recognized as the tournament’s top rebounder.
Meanwhile, Tracy Namugosa of Team Kamwada walked away as the event’s top scorer.
