Team Uganda is ready to fly the national flag when the 2025 UCI Road World and Para Cycling Championship rolls into Africa for the first time.

The global event runs from September 21–28 in Rwanda, a landmark for the continent’s cycling community.

Uganda will field an 11-member squad across elite, under-23, under-18, and women’s categories.

The team was officially flagged off Tuesday at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Lugogo by Milton Chebet, the NCS assistant general secretary for technical matters.

“I salute you for preparing a team that will compete at the World Championships in Rwanda. I wish you the very best,” Chebet said, urging private partners to help fund talent development and international exposure.

Leading Uganda’s charge is Charles Kagimu, set for the grueling 267.4 km elite race. The under-23 category features Lawrence Lorot, Arafat Kimuli, and Shafik Mugalu in the 111 km contest, while Paul Miiro, Atimu Kagaba, and Michael Loobo tackle 74 km in the under-18 division.

On the women’s side, Trinitah Namutebi will ride the 164.6 km elite race, with Mary Aleper, Florence Nakagwa, and Miria Nantume competing in the under-23 event.

Head coach Isaaka Bukenya, team manager Kigongo Semakula, coordinator Augustine Niyonzima, and chaperone Shakira Nantongo complete the delegation.
