Ten man Ndejje University have threatened to pull out of the University Football League after violence from home fans in their 1-1 draw against Kyambogo University on Saturday played at Banda.

The Luweero-based side’s coach, Musa Ssekago, attributed the threat to the attack on his goalkeeper, Emmanuel Mayega, at the end of the game. Mayega had to be rushed to the hospital.

“The game was good from the start and we managed to get a goal,” Ssekago said.

“Things started to be bad when the students of Kyambogo came and attacked our bench. My goalkeeper was beaten at the end of the game and he had to be rushed to the hospital.”

“We can decide to leave the league since it seems we are not playing football like we had anticipated.”

Ssekago also questioned the referee’s decision to add more than ten minutes of extra time.

“I’m still wondering why the referee added all those minutes,” he said.

“We were told that they had added 11 minutes but we went beyond that. It’s not our players who wasted the time but rather home fans.”

Regan Ssemaganda had given Ndejje the lead in the 14th minute, but Kyambogo equalized through Hudson Mbalire’s penalty in the 93rd minute.

Ndejje had been reduced to ten men in the second half after defender Abdul Kibedi was given a second yellow card.

The result left Kyambogo second in Group C with four points, two behind leaders Makerere University. Ndejje is third with two points, while Muni University is bottom with one point.

What the Kyambogo coach said

Kyambogo coach Christopher Lobbo blamed his players for not taking their chances.

“The truth is we didn’t have the luck on our side,” Lobbo said. “We got the chances but we were not lucky since we did everything.”

“We still have a chance to go past the group stages. We need to try to get three points to be safe from qualifying to the quarterfinals.”

The league will resume on Sunday when Bugema University hosts University of Kisubi.
