Ten squash clubs received an equipment boost in the Uganda Squash Equipment Donation Initiative, with Edgbaston Priory Club from England supporting the initiative.
The equipment handed over by Edgbaston Priory Club representative Lauren Evans to the Uganda Squash and Rackets Association includes squash bags, rackets, and balls.
At the handover ceremony held at Kampala Club on September 6, USRA General Secretary Shifa Nantambi showed gratitude for the received equipment, “As USRA, we are really grateful to Edgbaston Priory Club for this support. They have helped us with equipment worth around 50; now that amount can be shifted to other issues. I also urge companies in Uganda to take this as a model act; different sports disciplines are in much need of support.”
“This is a huge push to the squash family towards the coming Africa Squash Seniors men’s and women’s,” she added.
Lauren Evans from Edgbaston Priory Club states that “we are happy to work with the squash family in Uganda, as we look forward to its growth, but also I call upon parents to make a serious push to get their kids into the sport. I remember growing up as a squash player, my dad did a lot to support me.”
The ceremony was graced by the presence of William Byaruhanga, patron from Kampala Club, Moses Mwase, vice president Uganda Olympic Committee, Maggie Kigozi, a former director of Investment Authority, and Brian Miiro Nsubuga, a former referee representing Makerere University.
