Edson Mungyereza… Now that’s a name that echoes in the Ugandan rally scene! He’s been around so long, you’d think he has a time machine. He’s probably the reason there’s a “rally school” in the first place Edmu Rally Academy. Seriously, if you’re a codriver, you owe Edson a thank-you card, because that man knows what every note means and then some!
But here’s the kicker: Edson is lethal. He’s the guy you don’t want to face when he’s in the mood. Sure, he’s taken a break from active rallying (big time!), but don’t let that fool you. Edson comes out of hibernation for these “simple” sprints and absolutely blows the competition away. And let’s not forget his legendary Subaru GC8 the one with the single door, probably one of the last of its kind on Ugandan soil. If you find one of those, congratulations! You’ve just uncovered a piece of rally history.
This year, he’s stepping into the Subaru GVB Senior, the same beast that has crushed the Ugandan tracks. When asked who his co-driver will be, Edson’s reply was simply: “Njakumufuna.” No frills, no nonsense. Together, they will plan on dominating The Champions Sprint at all costs. We expect nothing less from the man who’s been rallying for longer than most of us have had our driving licenses.
